Congratulations Dawsyn!

Congratulations to outgoing Arkansas FFA State President Dawsyn Smith! She is the daughter of Deann and Dewayne Smith. Dewayne Smith has been with Farmers Oil Corp for 3 years and services customers in Arkansas and Missouri.

Dawsyn attended Newport High School in Newport, Arkansas where she was actively involved in FFA all 4 years. She participated in several Leadership and Career Development Events including Parliamentary Procedures, Extemporaneous Speaking, Discussion Meet and Ag Communications. As a freshman, Dawsyn was awarded the “Star Greenhand” award, an award that recognizes the outstanding first year member in the FFA. She went on to serve as the Newport FFA Chapter Secretary her sophomore year and was recognized as the Newport FFA Chapter’s “Star Chapter Farmer”, an honor awarded to the most active and dedicated sophomore or junior FFA member.

In 2016, Dawsyn was recognized as an Arkansas FFA Difference Maker at the Arkansas FFA State Convention in June. She had the opportunity to serve as the Newport FFA Chapter President her junior and senior year, the first two-term chapter president at NHS.

In 2017, Dawsyn was selected by the Arkansas FFA State Staff to work alongside the state officer team as an FFA National Delegate to represent our state association at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dawsyn ran for Arkansas FFA State Office and was elected the 2018-2019 Arkansas FFA State President. Through her time in state office, she had the opportunity to travel across the state facilitating workshops, taking industry tours within agriculture, speaking at numerous events and traveling to Washington D.C. for both state officer training in July and National Ag Day in April. She will also travel to Germany and The Netherlands in July 2019 to study agriculture on the National FFA Alumni and Supporters Trip.

Dawsyn retired from Arkansas FFA State Office in April 2019 at the 92nd Arkansas FFA State Convention. Dawsyn, an Agriculture Business major at Southern Arkansas University, was recently named “Outstanding Freshman of the Year” and was selected as a President's Ambassador at Southern Arkansas University.

We know Dewayne is proud of his youngest daughter - and we are too! Her passion and interest in the Agriculture industries will be great for her future and the future of Agriculture.
